when did it start
The work of Yamuna Expressway was started during the then Chief Minister of UP, Mayawati. It was such an expressway whose construction was completed before the scheduled time. When it was started in the year 2007, it was named Taj Expressway, but was taken up at the board meeting of the Taj Expressway Industrial Development Authority on 10 June 2008. This decision was taken on the orders of the state government. According to this decision, the Taj Expressway was given the new name Yamuna Expressway.
what are the features
Akhilesh Yadav, the then Chief Minister of the state, inaugurated the Yamuna Expressway on 9 August 2012. On this day it was opened for the use of the general public. This expressway is 165 km long and has six lanes. Keeping in view the future requirements, it can be increased to eight lanes.
- It is manufactured by Jaypee Group. It cost a total of Rs 12,839 billion to build it.
- It was built to decongest the old Delhi-Agra National Highway (NH-2) or Mathura Road.
- Since the construction of this expressway, the distance from Delhi to Agra has been reduced to just two hours. This expressway connects Greater Noida to Agra.
- Its northern end is at Pari Chowk in Greater Noida, while the southern end is on NH-2 in Kuberpur, Agra.
- It has toll plazas at Jewar, Mathura and Agra.
- This expressway covers Greater Noida, Jewar, Vrindavan, Mathura and Agra.
- Apart from the toll free helpline on Yamuna Expressway, there are also SOS booths on the way.
- CCTV cameras have been installed every 5 km along the expressway for safety and accident support.
- There is a mobile radar and a patrolling team every 25 km to monitor compliance with the minimum and maximum speed limits.
- This expressway will reduce the travel time between Greater Noida and Agra from 4 hours to 1 hour 40 minutes.
