Will seek extradition of Chinese national accused of Commonwealth Games scam

[ad_1]

Commonwealth Game 2010: The CBI will seek the extradition of Chinese national Jiashu Zhao, wanted in a case related to alleged corruption in the modernization of Shivaji Stadium in the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Officials said the CBI has so far failed in its efforts to get an Interpol red notice issued against Jishu. Jieshu is an alleged representative of the ‘China Railway Shishizu Group Corporation in India’.

Why CBI could not issue non-bailable warrant

The central agency could not issue a non-bailable warrant against him due to the absence of a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) between India and China, CBI officials said. The CBI declined to divulge more details on the failed attempts by Interpol to issue red notices against the Chinese national over the past three years. He said that Jiashu has been named as an accused along with senior officials of New Delhi Municipality (NDMC) in the charge sheet filed by the CBI in this case.

The CBI had separated his trial from the trial of the other accused as the CBI failed to issue summons and non-bailable warranties against Jiyashu. Officials said the agency has now decided to file an application for the extradition of the accused Chinese national. The case pertains to alleged corruption in the modernization of the Shivaji Stadium for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
