A 49-year-old woman from Bangalore, in her petition to the Delhi High Court, has requested the court to ban her friend’s travel to Europe. In the petition, the woman has described herself as a very close friend of the patient. He has requested in the petition that his parents, other family members and friends will have to face “irreparable loss” and “difficulties” if his friend’s plea to stop the travel is not considered.

According to a petition filed before the court on Wednesday, the woman’s friend is suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome since 2014. He plans to go to Switzerland to commit suicide with the help of a doctor. It is noteworthy that in India the option of euthanasia is not valid for a person who is not terminally ill to the extent of death.

According to the woman’s petition, her friend of 48 years living in Noida is undergoing treatment for her chronic fatigue syndrome disease at AIIMS (AIIMS). He was trying to overcome his disease through Fecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT) treatment. FMT is also called stool transplant.

In this, fecal bacteria are passed from one healthy person to another sick, but due to the corona pandemic, they could not find a donor for it. Because of this, his treatment could not continue. It has also been said in the petition that the symptoms of this disease started showing in the patient from the year 2014 and his condition kept deteriorating in the last eight years. He fell on the bed and was unable to do anything.

Woman’s friend is the only son

According to the woman’s petition, her friend is the only son of her parents. He also has a sister. The parents of the woman’s friend are 70 years old. However, the woman petitioner has refused to talk to anyone in this matter. The woman is in constant touch with her ailing friend and her family members.

This petition also includes a message sent by a sick friend, in which he wrote, “Enough is enough, I am looking at the option of euthanasia.” The petition said, “It is necessary to state here that anywhere in India or abroad There are no obstacles in the way of giving better treatment to the patient, but he is now firm on his decision to euthanasia, which badly affects the life of his aging parents.

The petition states that the woman’s friend had already taken a Schengen visa due to euthanasia. With this visa, 26 European countries can be traveled without any restrictions. He had taken this visa on falsehood to get treatment in a Belgian clinic. In fact, the patient had traveled to Zurich, Switzerland in June for the first phase of psychological evaluation for euthanasia.

According to the petition, the woman’s friend has decided to undergo euthanasia through the Zurich-based organization Dignitas, which helps foreign nationals in the matter. The petition claimed that after Dignitas accepted the application of the woman’s friend, she was first cleared for evaluation. The patients are waiting for the final decision of this organization in the matter of euthanasia till the end of August 2022.

The woman’s lawyer Subhash Chandran said, “The patient is not traveling in good faith. He is misleading the Indian authorities, so we are praying not to give him immigration clearance. We have no other option.” Significantly, in India in 2018, the Supreme Court had delivered a landmark judgment, which made passive euthanasia legal for terminally ill persons.
