NDPP will not merge with BJP: Nagaland CM Rio

[ad_1]

Digital Desk, Kohima. Nagaland Chief Minister and Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) leader Neiphiu Rio on Friday made it clear that his party will not merge with the BJP. Talking to the media here, he said that the BJP has been an electoral ally of the NDPP since 2017 but the question of his party’s merger with it does not arise. Rio was reacting to Nagaland Congress President K Theri’s claim that the NDPP was considering a merger with the BJP after the 2023 assembly elections.

The Chief Minister said, never said (merger of NDPP with BJP). Congress has fabricated a baseless story. They have no moral position to raise any questions about our integrity. Theri claimed on Thursday that the NDPP was considering forming a BJP government in the state. The BJP and the NDPP last month finalized a seat-sharing deal to contest the 60-member Nagaland Assembly elections.

Explaining the deal in New Delhi, BJP in-charge for Nagaland Nalin Kohli and NDPP general secretary Abu Metha announced that the NDPP would contest 40 seats and the BJP the remaining 20 seats. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Rio had struck a seat-sharing deal after meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the national capital.
