Jagdeep Dhankhar will be the new Vice President of India, defeating Margaret Alva by a huge margin

News Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar: NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar has won the Vice-President’s election. He defeated Congress leader Margaret Alva, the candidate of the opposition. The new Vice President will take the oath of office on August 11. A total of 725 MPs cast their votes in the election for the post of Vice President. 34 TMC, 2 BJP, 2 Shiv Sena and one BSP MP did not vote.
Lok Sabha General Secretary Utpal Kumar Singh said that NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar won by 346 votes out of total 725 votes with 528 votes. While 15 votes were declared invalid. The opposition candidate Margaret Alva got 182 votes in the election. He said that out of 780 electors comprising elected and nominated members of Rajya Sabha and elected members of Lok Sabha, 725 voters cast their votes. Total turnout was 92.94%.
Only two TMC MPs voted in this election. TMC’s Shishir Adhikari and Divendu Adhikari voted. TMC had announced to stay away from voting. On the other hand, Sanjay Dhotre of BJP could not vote due to health reasons and Sunny Deol is out of the country.
