India conscious by learning from Russia-Ukraine war, Indian Army strengthened its communication system

Defense News: Learning from the Russia-Ukraine War, the Indian Army conducted a major exercise with all its satellite communication equipment. This exercise, which lasted for a week in Eastern Ladakh, has been named ‘Skylight’. According to the information, during this exercise, all the ground communication equipment connected to the satellite was tested. For this, 200 Static Ground Based Satellite Terminals and 80 transportable and man-held terminals were used in Eastern Ladakh.

Features of ‘Skylight’

With these terminals, the army can get secure voice, video and data connectivity and they can be easily moved from one place to another and can be used in any kind of areas. They can provide wide line of sight tactical communication for mechanized operations. During this exercise, the help of ISRO i.e. Indian Space Research Organization was also taken.

India became conscious after seeing the Russo-Ukraine war

According to sources, the purpose of doing this exercise was that if the country’s ground-based communication systems such as mobile networks and optical fiber systems are destroyed during the war, then how will the army command and control. Because the first target of the enemy is the communication center.

Ukraine’s entire communication system came to a standstill during the war with Russia. In such a situation, Elon Musk’s Star-Link provided communication to the Ukrainian army. Only then the commanders of Ukraine were able to give instructions related to the war to their soldiers stationed on the border. This is the reason why the Indian Army tested all its space assets during this exercise.

Army uses GSAT-7A satellite

The Indian Army does not currently have any military satellite of its own. The Indian Army uses only the Navy’s GSAT-7A satellite. In the month of March this year, the Defense Ministry had approved a separate communication satellite for the Army.
