Bihar Politics: The loss of power in Bihar may seem to worsen the equation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from the point of view of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, but a section of the party leaders believe that it is for them in this state. There is an opportunity to end the dominance of regional parties, as it has done in Uttar Pradesh.
Janata Dal (United) leader and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar broke ties with the BJP and joined the Rashtriya Janata Dal-led Grand Alliance. This is the second time in nine years that he has shocked the BJP. The relationship between the BJP and the JD(U) had soured over several issues in the recent months and it was after this that Kumar took this step.
Gain or loss for BJP in 2024?
A section of Bihar BJP leaders was not in favor of continuing the alliance with the JD(U), but the party’s central leadership has been of the view that its (JD-U) presence in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will pave the way for its 2024 Because in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the NDA had captured 39 out of 40 seats in the state.
A JD(U) MLA said Kumar told a meeting of party MPs and MLAs that he had received a call from Delhi on Monday but Kumar told him that any decision regarding the alliance was taken in the meeting of party leaders. will go. Kumar did not name the leader but it is believed that he was a central BJP leader.
JDU was not comfortable with BJP?
However, in the next elections, BJP is set to compete with the Grand Alliance in the state. In the 2015 assembly elections, the grand alliance of JD(U) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) completely razed the BJP. Center for Study of Developing Societies Professor Sanjay Kumar said on the JD(U)’s break-up from the BJP that it is a clear indication that the allies are not comfortable with the BJP and are moving away from it one by one.
He said that but at the same time it also gives an opportunity to the BJP to strengthen its position in the state whose regional party has left it. He said that this development will give an opportunity to the BJP to expand in the state. But I cannot tell how successful he will be in 2024.
Large number of votes were given to BJP
Many BJP leaders said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi Under the leadership of the BJP, it has gained a strong hold among the backward and Dalit voters in several states in the last few years and it can single-handedly repeat its performance. He said that the JD(U) is considered to be a popular base among the most backward class voters, but in the 2019 Lok Sabha and 2020 assembly elections, along with the Dalits, they also voted for the BJP in large numbers.
What is the strength of the Grand Alliance?
A party leader said that the BJP is the strongest today at the national level and this is the right time to end the dominance of regional parties in Bihar. Just like the dominance of Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party was ended in Uttar Pradesh. At present, the number of MLAs in the state assembly is 242 while 122 MLAs are required for majority. RJD has the maximum number of 79 MLAs, followed by BJP with 77 and JD(U) with 44.
How many independent MLAs support Nitish Kumar?
The JD(U) also has the support of four MLAs of former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha and an independent. Congress has 19 MLAs while CPI(ML) has 12 and CPI and CPI(M) have two MLAs each. Apart from this, one MLA belongs to Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).
