The Gauhati High Court on Thursday requested that the state government give the best subjective treatment to the prison detainees over the state with the goal that no further harm is caused. The High Court’s intercession comes following a PIL documented by senior supporter Nilay Dutta after a couple hundred of detainees tried positive for Covid-19 inside the correctional facilities across Assam.
The High Court seat involving Chief Justice Ajay Lamba and Justice Manish Choudhury guided the Inspector General of Prisons to document an affirmation on the issue and recorded the case for next hearing on September 8. The Court request stated: “We thusly direct that the best of the measures accessible with the territory of Assam, be utilized to give subjective treatment to the prison detainees over the state so no further harm is caused.”
