Fought for 20 rupees with the railways for 22 years, the hard work paid off, now the railways will have to compensate

A similar victory has been won by a lawyer named Tunganath Chaturvedi, a lawyer living in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. He fought a case against Indian Railways for 20 rupees and his hard work paid off. After all, after 22 years, he has won this case against the Railways.

What was the matter of 20 rupees?

The railway booking clerk had charged Rs 20 more than Mathura’s lawyer Tungnath Chaturvedi. In this matter, he had filed a case in the Consumer Forum. This case is from the year 1999. Then in 1999, Tungnath Chaturvedi, a resident of Gali Pirpanch of Mathura, reached Mathura Cantonment Railway Station on 25 December. He had to go to Moradabad from here. During this, he asked the booking clerk to give two tickets, but charged Rs 90 for these tickets of Rs 70. A ticket from Mathura Cantt station to Moradabad used to cost Rs 35 then.

Booking clerk did not return the remaining money even after asking

Being a ticket of Rs 35, Tungnath Chaturvedi asked the booking clerk to return Rs 20, but he did not return the money. There was a lot of debate between the two about this 20 rupees, but in the meantime the train of Passenger Chaturvedi arrived and he left for Moradabad. But the talk of this injustice kept swirling in his mind. As soon as he came back from the journey, he put a case in the District Consumer Forum of Mathura on this illegal recovery of railways. He put this case against the General Manager North East Railway Gorakhpur (North East Railways Gorakhpur) and the window booking clerk of Mathura Cantonment Railway Station (Station Master). In this, he also made the government a party.

22 years of hard work paid off

Lawyer Tungnath Chaturvedi says that he fought this battle of 22 years not for 20 rupees but keeping in mind the public interest. He says that even though the right decision came late and he is completely satisfied with it. Eventually his hard work paid off and the consumer forum ruled in his favor. In this decision, the Railways was ordered to pay a fine of Rs 15 thousand for mental, financial and case expenses along with 12 percent interest at the rate of Rs 20 every year. Railways will have to give this money to lawyer Chaturvedi within 30 days. If the railways does not do this, then it will have to pay 15 percent interest on 20 rupees every year.
