Farmers sitting on dharna for payment of sugarcane in Punjab, warned of nationwide agitation

Farmers have started agitation on one lane of Delhi-Amritsar Highway due to non-payment of about Rs 72 crore to the farmers from Golden Sandhar Sugar Mills Limited.
The farmers are warning that if the money is not released soon, they will close the other part of the shop as well. Even the farmers have warned of demonstration across Punjab. One reason for farmers’ displeasure is the open auction of land worth Rs 155 crore. The farmers have also accused the government of misleading them. The farmers said that their payment of Rs 72 crore is pending. He had an outstanding of Rs 30 crore in 2019-20. In 2020-2021, he had arrears of seven crore rupees. He had an outstanding of Rs 35 crore in 2021-2022.
Thousands of farmers have stayed in Punjab
Thousands of rupees of farmers are stuck in sugar mills in four districts of Punjab. Sugar mills are closed due to the end of sugarcane season. When contacted the mill owners and higher officials, they could not be contacted. On getting information, it came to know that the GM of the mill had gone somewhere.
