Maharashtra Politics: the election commission Eknath Shinde A notice has been issued to the factions of (Eknath Shinde) and Uddhav Thackeray. The Election Commission (ECI) has asked both of them for documentary evidence to prove their majority. The Election Commission of India will hear the matter on August 8. The Eknath Shinde camp has claimed that they are the real Shiv Sena, while the Uddhav Thackeray faction has given a tough challenge to it.
Let us tell you that earlier Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde faction had written a letter to the Election Commission (EC) demanding allotment of the party’s election symbol ‘Dhanush-Arrow’. The Eknath Shinde camp, in its letter to the Election Commission, claimed the support of 40 out of 55 MLAs and 12 out of 19 Lok Sabha MPs. In the letter sent to the Election Commission, the Shinde faction claimed to be the real Shiv Sena and cited the recognition given by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar.
MVA government was toppled by revolt
In Maharashtra, at least 40 of the 55 Shiv Sena MLAs had declared their support to rebel leader Eknath Shinde. After which the MVA government led by Uddhav Thackeray collapsed. Eknath Shinde was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the state on 30 June. At the same time, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis became the Deputy Chief Minister of the state.
Uddhav Thackeray faction also wrote a letter
Eknath Shinde on Tuesday declared Rahul Shewale as the party’s leader in the Lok Sabha and retained five-time member Bhavna Gawli as chief whip. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla recognized Shewale as the leader of the Shiv Sena in the lower house of Parliament. Earlier, the Uddhav Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena had written to the Election Commission (ECI) requesting it to hear its views before taking any decision on the claims on the party’s name and its symbol.
