Defense Expo: Defense Expo was canceled due to Russia-Ukraine war, now it will be organized from this date

Russia-Ukraine War: A new date for the Defense Expo, which was postponed due to the Russia-Ukraine War, has been announced. Asia’s biggest defense exhibition will be held on 18-22 October in Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat. The Ministry of Defense on Monday released the place and date regarding this Defense Expo of India, which displays its weapons and military-equipment to the world. The Defense Expo, to be held once in two years, was earlier to be held in Gandhinagar itself from March 11-13.
About 1000 companies from the country and abroad had also registered to participate in the Defense Expo, but due to the Russia-Ukraine war, a large number of foreign companies refused to participate later due to logistic problems. This is the reason why the Defense Ministry postponed the Defense Expo. According to the Defense Ministry, the five-day event will have three business days followed by two public days. DefExpo-2022, a three-venue in the Helipad Exhibition Center with an area of over one million square meters; Inaugural programs and seminars at Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Center and live demos will be organized at Sabarmati River Front.
Step towards export target of $5 billion
Exhibition Plans Events like Bandhan to forge partnerships between companies, Seminars and Webinars showcasing Start-ups/MSMEs including cutting edge technology solutions for the battlefield of the future, Artificial Intelligence in Defence, Student visits, Aerospace to Gujarat and Defense sector etc. is being formed with to showcase as an investment destination. DefExpo-2022 is in line with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision to achieve self-reliance in defense and export $5 billion by 2025.
Asia’s biggest event in defense sector
India has successfully established itself as an emerging defense manufacturing hub in recent years with several international orders bagged by Indian companies. The Indian defense industry is eagerly anticipating the DefExpo-2022 which is Asia’s largest event in the defense sector. DefExpo 2022 with its theme ‘Path to Pride’ invokes nationalistic pride and encourages citizens to participate in nation building through establishment of an enabling indigenous defense industry, according to the Defense Ministry encourages.
Event will boost investment
At DefExpo-2022, participants will have the opportunity to showcase their equipment and platforms and will also be able to explore the expanding strengths and capabilities of the Indian Defense Industry to forge business partnerships. The event will help in promoting investment, expanding manufacturing capabilities and affordability, exploring opportunities for technology incorporation. India is currently the second largest arms importer in the world.
Trying to make India’s identity as ‘Defense Hub’
For the last few years, India is also emphasizing on the production and export of weapons. This is the reason that through this time’s Defense Expo, India is trying to identify itself as a ‘Defense-Hub’. This is the 12th edition of the Defense Expo going to be held in Gandhinagar in the month of October. The last Defense Expo was held in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, while the ninth edition was held in Chennai and the eighth in Goa. Before that, the Defense-Expo used to take place in the capital Delhi only. More than a thousand arms companies participated in the Defense Expo held in Lucknow. Of these, about 170 were foreign companies. Defense ministers, army chiefs and other dignitaries from about 40 countries participated in Lucknow.
