TMC Reshuffle: In a major reshuffle, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday inducted new faces, including some ministers, into the organization. The aim of which is to strengthen the party before the important panchayat elections to be held next year. These reshuffles have been made amid the ongoing political turmoil after the arrest of senior party leader and former minister Partha Chatterjee in the school recruitment scam.
Earlier in the day, West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee announced a cabinet reshuffle and said some of the existing ministers would be sent to the party organisation. “All India Trinamool Congress is pleased to announce the appointments of some new District Presidents and District Chairman of West Bengal Trinamool Congress under the inspiration and guidance of Mamata Banerjee,” the party said in a statement.
TMC made many changes
After the announcement of CM Banerjee, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Planning, Statistics and Program Monitoring Department Asima Patra and Irrigation and Waterways Minister Soumen Mohapatra have been entrusted with the organizational responsibilities of their districts. Party sources said that Trinamool Congress MLAs Tapas Rai and Partha Bhowmik have been relieved from the posts of the party’s North Kolkata and Dum Dum-Barrackpore regions. The impression of party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee is clearly visible in the reshuffle.
The presidents of these districts were changed
In this reshuffle, “non-workers” were removed and some were relieved of organizational duties, paving the way for his ministerial berth. Sources said that the new district committees have been formed keeping in mind the experienced and young leaders in the TMC party. Presidents of several organizational districts including Cooch Behar, Dakshin Dinajpur, Nadia Dakshin (Ranaghat), Hooghly-Srirampur, Jhargram and Bangaon were changed, while several other districts such as Kolkata North, Bankura, North Dinajpur, Tamluk and Bangaon would have new heads.
