Bengal: Big TMC leader Anubrata Mandal arrested on charges of animal smuggling, arrested by CBI

TMC Anubrata Mandal Arrested by CBI: Anubrata Mandal, a big leader of Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal, has been arrested by the CBI. CBI has arrested Anubrata Mandal on charges of cattle smuggling. Earlier, the CBI had asked Mandal to appear but did not appear before the authorities. He was not cooperating in the CBI investigation. Eventually, the CBI arrested Mandal from his residence in Bolpur, Birbhum. Anubrata Mandal is the District President of TMC from Birbhum in West Bengal. It is alleged that he was trying to evade investigation by dodging the CBI. The CBI had sent a notice on August 5 for questioning Mandal in the animal smuggling case. Mandal was asked to appear in the CBI office at Nizam’s Palace in Kolkata on Monday, August 8.

When the CBI team reached Anubrata Mandal’s house this morning, the front door was not opened. The CBI team was allowed to come inside after being kept outside for some time. The team entered the house through the back garage. Seven people were present in the CBI team. Anubrata Mondal was summoned twice this week by the CBI on charges of cow smuggling, but he did not appear before the agency citing the cause of the disease. After the arrest, Anubrata Mandal is being taken for medical examination.

In 2020, the CBI had registered a case against many people, including BSF Commandant Satish Kumar, after the animal smuggling case came to light through the Indo-Bangladesh border. During the CBI investigation, the name of Anubrata Mandal came up in the case. The CBI has already questioned Anubram Mandal.

Recently, the CBI had raided 13 locations of close associates of Mandal in Kolkata and Birbhum. In the raid of CBI, many things including cash worth Rs 17 lakh, 10 mobile phones and pen drives were recovered. The incriminating documents were also found by the CBI. Anubrata Mandal has been in the party since its inception in 1998 and is said to be close to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
