An Assam government official was caught taking bribes in Patharighat Revenue Circle Office in Darrang district after a Patharighat resident planted a secret camera to expose corruption in the revenue office.
The official accepted a bribe for land-related work under the Assam government’s Basundhara Scheme.
“On Monday, I went to the circle office and they said that all the land-related work is done for free.
But it wasn’t free of cost. They took bribes starting from Rs 100, Rs 200. They took whatever we could afford. When I went there, they took money from me as well. Although we were told it would be free of cost. Everyone is a broker,” said the man who exposed the official.
