She is famous not only in India but all over the world as Missile Woman and why not? She is the first woman in India to hold the important responsibility of the Agni Missile Program.
Presently he is the Director General Aeronautical Systems in the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). Missile Woman Dr. Tessy Thomas was born in April 1963 in Alappuzha, Kerala in a Syrian Christian family. She was named Tessy after Mother Teresa. When Tessy was 13 years old, her father was paralyzed. His mother was a teacher, after which he took all the responsibility outside the house. Tessy’s house was near the Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station, so missiles started attracting her since childhood.
Not only this, she used to get very excited seeing the planes flying. Since childhood, the dream of becoming a scientist of aeronautical systems in his mind, which he not only turned into reality, but also set a record in it. He had four sisters and one brother out of six siblings in the family. During an interview, he had told that his mother, bypassing the difficulties, paid a lot of attention to the education of all the brothers and sisters. She says that her mother, her home town and nature had a special contribution in her success.

Tessy Thomas completed her studies from St. Michaels Higher Secondary School and St. Joseph’s Girls Higher Secondary School, Alleppey Alappuzha. During his studies, he liked mathematics and physics subjects very much. As a result, Tessy secured 100% marks in Mathematics in class 11th and 12th in the school. He also scored more than 95 percent in science. This great scientist had to take a loan to become an inspiration for the country for further studies.
To study engineering from Government Engineering College Thrissur, he took a loan of Rs 100 per month from State Bank of India. He also got a scholarship in school on the strength of his talent. This included his tuition fee. Because of the loan, he got the courage to stay in the hostel while doing his B.Tech.
During her school-college days, she was vocal about political issues and actively participated in other activities. He excelled in sports especially badminton. He has M.Tech in Guided Missile from Institute of Armament Technology, Pune which is now known as Defense Institute of Advanced Technology. He has MBA in Operations Management as well as PhD in Guided Missile under the guidance of DRDO. Of. Tessy was educated in major universities like Indian National Academy of Engineering, Institute of Engineers and Tata Administrative Service.
Ex-President APJ kidnapped Agni project
Tessy Thomas joined DRDO in 1988. Here he worked on the design and development of a new generation ballistic missile, Agni. He was appointed by former President and scientist Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam for the Agni project. Tessy was also the Associate Project Director of the 3,000 km range Agni-III missile project. She was the project director of Mission Agni IV, which was successfully test fired in 2011. After this, he was made the Project Director of the 5,000 km range Agni-V in 2009. It was successfully tested on 19 April 2012. In the year 2018, she became the Director General of Aeronautical Systems in DRDO.

Tessy Thomas said during an interview in 2012 that she was working on ‘weapons of peace’. She told that when she came to DRDO, very few women used to work there, but in the present time their number has increased and now women are working in important missile programs. In the year 2012, Tessy Thomas was given the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award. This award is given for the remarkable contribution of making the country self-reliant in the field of missile technology. Not only this, he has also been given honorary degree of Doctor of Science by IIT Kanpur in 2019 and Karnataka Central University in 2018. Lokmanya Tilak National Award for the year 2022 is also in his name. The APJ Award of the year 2022 is also in his name. He is also a recipient of the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, the highest award in Indian science.
