APSC Prelims Exam Pattern 2023

The APSC CCE Exam consists of 3 rounds, the Prelims, followed by Mains and finally, if qualified, the Personal Interview. The details and Exam pattern for all the above-mentioned rounds are listed in the table below:

APSC CCE Exam Pattern 2023 for Prelims

APSC CCE Preliminary Exam is of total 400 marks. Candidates who will qualify this exam will further eligible for APSC CCE Mains Exam.

APSC CCE Exam Pattern 2023 for Mains

After the prelims are over, the Mains exam will be conducted. Candidates who qualify Prelims are eligible for Mains. Those candidates who will qualify the Mains will further be called for Personal Interview Test. Qualifying Language Papers (In the level of Class-X)- APSC Mains

Paper-A | 300 Marks | 3 Hours

Paper-B | English | 300 Marks | 3 Hours

Any one of languages from Assamese, Bengali and Bodo. Candidates from Dima Hasao, Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts who had not studied any of these languages in school shall be exempted from appearing for qualifying language papers.

APSC CCE Exam Pattern 2023 for Prelims

General Studies – Paper – I (200 marks) – 100 Questions

Duration: Two hours

i. Current events of national and international importance.
ii. History of India and Indian National Movement.
iii. Indian and World Geography-Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
iv. Indian Polity and Governance-Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights issues etc,
v. Economic and Social Development-Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion,
Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.
vi. General issues on Environment ecology, Bio-Diversity and Climate Change- that do not require subject specialization.
vii. General Science.

Note: 30-35% questions in General Studies Paper I will be related to Assam.

General Studies-II (200 marks) – 80 Questions

Duration: Two hours

i. Comprehension.
ii. Interpersonal skills including communication skills.
iii. Logical reasoning and analytical ability.
iv. Decision making and problem solving.
v. General mental ability.
vi. Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data Interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc.) (Class X level)

APSC CCE Mains Syllabus 2023

The APSC CCE Mains Exam comprises 8 papers in total. Of the 8 papers, 2 are qualifying papers. The topics included in each paper is given below-

Paper-I (Essay)

The first paper is an Essay. It is of 250 marks in total and the candidates will get 3 hours for the examination. The guidelines are mentioned below-

  • To be written in the language or medium of the candidate’s choice.
  • The candidate is required to write an essay on a specific topic.
  • The choice of subjects will be given.

Paper-II (General Studies Paper 1)

The second paper will be General Studies. The paper will be of 250 marks and the duration of the examination will be 3 hours. The topics that will be covered in this paper are as follows-

Paper-III (General Studies Paper 2)

The Third paper will be General Studies. The paper will be of 250 marks and the duration of the examination will be 3 hours. The topics that are included in this paper are as follows-

Paper-IV (General Studies Paper 3)

The fourth paper will be General Studies. The paper will be of 250 marks and the duration of the examination will be 3 hours. The topics that will be included in this paper are as follows-

Paper VII & VIII: List of APSC Optional Subjects

Paper VII and VIII are optional subject-based. The candidates have to choose from the subjects provided by the exam authorities. The list of optional subjects is given below-

APSC Mains Exam 2023 Qualifying Papers

These papers are qualifying in nature. The marks are not counted and only passing these papers is mandatory. For both Paper A and Paper B, the Commission decides Minimum Qualifying Marks.

APSC Mains Exam 2023 Qualifying Paper A

This section is a language paper, the questions will be from the language which the candidate has selected from Assamese/Bengali/Bodo and the questions will carry 300 marks. Questions will be asked based on:

  • Comprehension of given passages.
  • Precis Writing
  • Usage and Vocabulary.
  • Short Essay
  • Translation i.e. English to the Indian language and vice versa.

APSC Mains Exam 2023 Qualifying Paper B

This paper is designed to test the candidates’ ability to read and understand serious discursive prose, and to express his ideas clearly and correctly, in English, and will carry 300 marks.

  • Comprehension of given passages.
  • Precis Writing
  • Usage and Vocabulary.
  • Short Essay.

Once the candidates qualify the Prelims and Mains Exam, they will be called for the Personal Interview for the final selection. The final merit list will be prepared on the basis of the candidate’s performance in the Mains Exam and Personal Interview.

Schemes and Subjects for the APSC Main Examination

The APSC CEE Main Examination consists of

I. Written Examination and

II. Interview Test / Personality Test (After qualifying in written test)

I. Written Examination

On the basis of the result of the Preliminary Examination, the number of candidates to be admitted to the written part of the Main Examination will be 11 to 12 times the number of vacancies notified for each category. The written examination shall consist of six papers of conventional essay type/objective type with limited words.

On the basis of result of the written part of the Main Examination, candidates will be called for interview in the ratio of 1:3 against the number of vacancies advertised.

The candidates will be interviewed by a board that will have before them a record of his/her career. He/She will be asked questions on matters of general interest. The objective of the interview is to assess the personal suitability of the candidate for a career in public service by a board of competent and unbiased observers. The test is intended to judge the mental caliber of a candidate. In broad terms this is really an assessment of not only his intellectual qualities but also social traits and his interest in current affairs.
