Seek support from Kejriwal and Bommai
Alva has started contacting the leaders. After meeting Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Margaret Alva spoke to Assam CM Hemant Vishwasharma and Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai. Yogi Adityanath Describing her as an old friend of Parliament, Alva said that she will also contact all the Chief Ministers including the UP CM who are not in her support.

Alva, who has already expressed disappointment over the TMC’s decision to abstain from the vice-presidential election, asked West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to contact her and said that she would also talk to her. In the meeting of opposition parties held at the house of NCP supremo Sharad Pawar last week, it was announced to make Margaret Alva the vice-president candidate. Alva is pitted against NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar in the voting for the Vice-President’s election to be held on August 5. Members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha vote in the election of the Vice-President. NDA has enough numbers but Alva is in a mood to compete with Dhankhar.
