Mukesh Ambani Family Security: The Supreme Court has allowed the government to maintain the security given to industrialist Mukesh Ambani and his family. The Supreme Court has set aside the order of the Tripura High Court, in which this security was questioned. The High Court had issued an order asking the competent officer of the Union Home Ministry to appear before it and explain the need to provide security to the Ambani family.
A bench of Supreme Court Chief Justice NV Ramana, Justice Krishna Murari and Justice Hima Kohli wondered how the matter was being heard in the High Court. The Bench has said that the petitioner in the Tripura High Court has nothing to do with the matter. The Ambani family is taking care of their own security. There is no need for any hearing on this issue.
Earlier on June 29, the Solicitor General, while keeping the issue in the Supreme Court, said that the Maharashtra government has given security on the basis of the report received from the Centre. It has nothing to do with Tripura. Still there is hearing. On that day a bench of Justices Surya Kant and Jamshed Pardiwala stayed the orders issued by the High Court on 31 May and 21 June. In these orders, details related to the security of the Ambani family were sought from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
What’s the matter?
In view of the threat to the security of industrialist Mukesh Ambani, he has been given Z + security. Some of his family members have also been given Y+ security. The petitioner named Bikash Saha challenged this in the Tripura High Court through a PIL. Accepting the petition, the High Court had asked the Union Home Ministry to give details of the assessment made on the threat to the Ambani family. The High Court had said that the officials of the ministry should appear in person and give information.
Challenging this, the central government told the Supreme Court that the security has been given by the Maharashtra government. The Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court have rejected the earlier petition filed against it. This whole matter has nothing to do with Tripura. The government had also said that opposition to the protection of a family cannot be a matter of public interest litigation.
