Nitin Gadkari On Toll Rates Uniformity: Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari has told in the House that the toll rates for National Highways are uniform across the country. It is worth mentioning that Kanimozhi NVN Somu, Rajya Sabha MP from Tamil Nadu had raised a question in the House regarding toll rates.
What did Kanimozhi ask in the house?
Kanimozhi NVN Somu, Rajya Sabha MP from Tamil Nadu, had questioned the toll rate charged per kilometer traveled on the National Highway of Tamil Nadu in the House and sought full details of it. He had asked whether Tamil Nadu has higher toll rates per kilometer traveled on national highways than other states? And whether the passengers in their state have paid more toll tax than other states. Along with this, the issue of increase in toll rates in toll gates more than 10 years old in Tamil Nadu and request for withdrawal of toll collection was also raised on the floor of the House.
Nitin Gadkari’s reply to Kanimozhi
To this, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari replied that the toll rates are the same across the country for passengers traveling on national highways including Tamil Nadu. Gadkari said that the state governments regularly represent on issues related to toll plazas. In the reply laid on the Table of the House, Nitin Gadkari said, “However, the toll revenue collected is put back in the development of roads. State governments give their support.”
