The party high command had requested him to continue in the post, but he refused. After this the party had unanimously decided that Sonia Gandhi would be the president and she is. Even today the process of election of the President is going on in the party. Elections will be held next month or by September.
“President is elected by democratic process in Congress”
On the question of Digvijay Singh electing someone other than a member of the Gandhi family as the President, he said that in the Congress, the President has always been elected through a democratic process. How many parties are there where such elections are held? Are there elections in BJP, AAP, TMC? The election for the post of President in Congress is and will still happen. When Sonia Gandhi was elected the working president, it was a unanimous decision.
Former CM Digvijay Singh further said that there is every kind of leadership in our party. We have Chidambaram in our party, Ghulam Nabi, Ashok Gehlot. There is no dearth of leadership in the party, but the party leaders unanimously elected Sonia Gandhi as the President, there is nothing wrong in this.
