Seditious Speech: In the sedition case, Delhi’s Karkardooma Court has rejected the bail plea of Sharjeel Imam, accused of Delhi violence. Earlier, the court had reserved the decision regarding the interim bail of Sharjeel in the sedition case. The court had issued notice to Delhi Police on May 30 regarding Sharjeel’s interim bail application. On May 27, Sharjeel went to the lower court for interim bail in the sedition case. The Delhi High Court had asked Sharjeel to approach the lower court for bail.
In fact, on Wednesday (July 20) itself, the hearing regarding the interim bail of Sharjeel Imam was going to be held in Delhi’s Karkardooma Court, but the court had deferred the order on interim bail. After which the court had said that the decision on this matter would be pronounced on July 23. After which the court rejected Sharjeel’s interim bail plea in today’s hearing. Sharjeel Imam had approached the court for relief in the sedition case after the direction of the Supreme Court.

Let us tell you that when Sharjeel Imam was being searched in the jail, he was accused of attacking the jail officials and the prisoners and calling him a terrorist. In this case too, on July 20, the Tihar Jail Superintendent appeared in the Karkardooma Court. He has also submitted to the court those videos of Sharjeel Imam which were recorded on CCTV during his stay in jail on 30 June.
Supreme Court said – take bail from the lower court
Earlier on May 27, in this case, Sharjeel’s lawyer had also applied in the Supreme Court for bail in the sedition case, but the Supreme Court asked his lawyer to first file an interim bail petition in the lower court. The High Court had allowed Sharjeel Imam to approach the trial court for interim bail on the basis of the Supreme Court’s order to suspend proceedings in all sedition cases in the country.
