PM Modi In Chess Olympiad: PM Modi inaugurated the Chess Olympiad in Chennai today. Five-time world chess champion Viswanathan Anand handed over the torch of the Olympiad to PM Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin. The torch was then handed over to young Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa and other Indian chess players at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai. The Olympiad is scheduled to be held from 28 July to 10 August at Punjeri village in Mamallapuram.

Addressing the ceremony, PM Modi said that I welcome all of you to the 44th Chess Olympiad being held in India. The most prestigious tournament of chess has come to the house of chess i.e. India. It has come to Asia for the first time in 3 decades. It has the largest number of participating countries. It has the highest number of participating teams so far. The first torch relay of the Chess Olympiad has started this time.

History of Tamil Nadu with Chess- PM

PM Modi said that Tamil Nadu has a deep historical connection with chess. This is the reason why it is a chess powerhouse for India. It has produced many chess grandmasters of India. It is home to the best of mind, vibrant culture and the oldest language in the world, Tamil. Sport is beautiful because it has the power to unite. Sports bring people and society closer. Sports nurture the spirit of teamwork. My best wishes to all the teams and players gathered here for the 44th Chess Olympiad.

Warm welcome to PM Modi

The Nehru Indoor Stadium was lit up with lights at the opening ceremony of the Chess Olympiad being held in India for the first time. Before the start of the 44th season of the Chess Olympiad, the main area of ​​Chennai was decorated in a splendid manner. A large sized chess board with bright colorful lights and flags of the countries participating in this tournament were put up outside the stadium. Prime minister Narendra Modi was also given a warm welcome in Chennai. On his way towards Jawaharlal Nehru by road, he was warmly welcomed with performances by musicians and percussionists along the way.

PM Modi was wearing a patka with a chessboard design border. The Arts and Culture Wing of BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit organized music and traditional dance to welcome PM Modi. While going towards the stadium, supporters showered flowers on Modi’s car. In the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin at the opening ceremony, sand artist Sarvam Patel won the hearts of people with his skills by creating artwork related to the ancient Mamallapuram port temple, the game of chess and the host country India. Superstar Rajinikanth was among the star invitees who were present at the event.

The stage of the stadium was decorated with large figures of king, queen, rook, bishop, knight and pawns used in large chess games. A special dance-song ‘Vanakkam Chennai, Vanakkam Chess’ was performed on the occasion. An audio visual on the theme of sand-sculpting took place in Mamallapuram, the historic port city that hosted the Games. Teams from dozens of countries, including Japan, China, Australia, Germany, Italy, South Africa, Austria, Albania, Algeria, Angola, Argentina and Barbados, were welcomed into the stadium to thunder of orchestral tunes and applause.
