PM Modi congratulated on being nominated 10 new Ramsar sites in the country, said this

Wetlands In India: Prime minister Narendra Modi (PM Naredra Modi) has congratulated 10 new wetlands in the country for being nominated as Ramsar Sites. He said that every environment lover would be happy that 10 more wetlands in India have been designated as Ramsar sites. He said that last month, 5 sites had received the same recognition, this will deepen our commitment to protect our natural surroundings.

Earlier, the Union Environment Ministry said that India and China now have the largest number of wetlands of international importance, taking their total to 64 with 10 more Indian sites joining the Ramsar list. The purpose of the Ramsar List is to develop and protect an international network of wetlands that are critical to the protection of global biological diversity and human life through the conservation of their ecosystem components, processes and benefits.

These 10 names got place in the list

Of the 10 new sites included in the list, 6 are from Tamil Nadu and one each from Goa, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha. These wetland sites are spread over an area of ​​12,50,361 hectares in the country. “The inclusion of these sites in the list (Ramsar) will help in conservation and management of wetlands and judicious use of their resources,” the ministry said in a statement. Now, India is in the first place jointly with China.

75 sites target in 75 years of independence

Tamil Nadu’s Konthankulam Bird Sanctuary, Gulf of Mannar Marine Biosphere Reserve, Vembanur Wetland Complex, Velode Bird Sanctuary, Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary and Udayamarthanpuram Bird Sanctuary are among the 10 new Indian wetlands included in the Ramsar List. Satkosia Gorge of Odisha; Goa’s Nanda Lake; Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary in Karnataka and Sirpur wetland site in Madhya Pradesh. Officials say that India is aiming to get Ramsar recognition for its 75 wetlands in the 75th year of Independence. Ramsar is the place in Iran where the International Wetlands Treaty was signed in 1971.
