What’s the matter?
In 1996, when Sanjeev Bhatt was the SP of Banaskantha, Gujarat, he claimed to have arrested a person named Sumer Singh Rajpurohit with 1 kg of drugs from a hotel there. Rajpurohit, a lawyer by profession, had given a complaint of implicating himself. Shortly after investigation, it came to light that Rajpurohit was kidnapped from his house in Pali, Rajasthan. To implicate him, Sanjeev Bhatt and some other policemen showed him arrested with drugs. Initially, the Rajasthan Police had investigated the matter. Later in the investigation of Gujarat CID also the same facts came to the fore. The CID has also filed a charge sheet in the lower court in the case. In 2018, Bhatt was arrested on the orders of the Gujarat High Court for illegally collecting drugs and making a false case.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal appeared for Sanjiv Bhatt before a bench of Justices Hemant Gupta and Vikram Nath. He said that he has been in custody for 4 years. They should be given bail. The court said that the allegations in the case are very serious in nature. There is a provision of severe punishment if found guilty. The court also said that Bhatt has not tried his best to get bail in the lower courts. Seeing the stand of the judges, Sibal withdrew the petition.

Got life imprisonment in one case
There are many more cases registered against Sanjiv Bhatt, who was sacked from his job in 2015. The charge of custodial torture of a person and killing him has been proved against him while being the Additional SP in Jamnagar in 1990. In this case, he is serving a life sentence.
