UAPA Cases: The central government shared information about the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The government said that between 2016 and 2020, a total of 24 thousand 134 people were arrested under the UAPA Act and tried against them, but only 212 of them could be proved guilty.
Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai, in response to a question in the Rajya Sabha, said that under this law, in these four years, 386 accused were released by various courts of the country. The Union Minister of State for Home said that during the year 2016-2022, a total of 5 thousand 27 cases were registered under UAPA, out of which the number of people under consideration was 24,134. The Union Minister said that out of those against whom the case was initiated under this law, 212 accused were convicted and 386 were released.
What is UAPA law?
The full form of UAPA is Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act i.e. Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The main purpose of this law is to prevent terrorist activities. Under this law, the police and investigative agencies identify such terrorists, criminals and suspects, who are involved in terrorist activities.
The UAPA Act was introduced in the year 1967. This law was continuously amended. The UAPA Act was amended in 2019. Since then, on the basis of investigation under this law, any suspicious person can be declared a terrorist. Cases are registered in UAPA under various sections.
