In Bengal, the heat of ED’s action against Partha Chatterjee reached Kerala, CPI(M) was shocked

Digital Desk, Thiruvananthapuram. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday arrested West Bengal minister and Trinamool Congress general secretary Partha Chatterjee in a corruption case, leaving the CPI(M)’s Kerala unit in a tizzy.
Things have not been going well with the CPI(M)’s Kerala unit in general and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in particular these days ever since Swapna Suresh, the main accused in the gold smuggling case, made serious allegations. Suresh has alleged that Vijayan, his wife and their daughter were involved in smuggling of gold and currency.
Following this, the Congress and the BJP have been demanding that Vijayan either answer Swapna’s questions, or face an inquiry, which has been rejected by Vijayan. While the entire party is organizing rallies and public meetings behind him, the state is flooded with posters giving him a clean chit.
But, in a shocking news for the CPI-M and Vijayan on Wednesday, the ED approached the Supreme Court seeking transfer of gold smuggling cases from Kerala to Bengaluru. The ED on Thursday informed the court that if permission is granted, they will file his confession statement in a sealed cover before the court.
Ever since Swapna alleged, Vijayan has gone completely contactless for all practical purposes. His only interaction with the media was in the first week of June, he too was connected to his office through a press release. He has gone into a kind of solitary confinement, avoiding the questions of the media and all the allegations.
Meanwhile, Swapna has wholeheartedly welcomed it after hearing a plea by the ED to transfer the case to Bengaluru. “For the first time, I feel positive that the matter will come to its conclusion, as I myself have stated that Vijayan is only concerned about his daughter, while women like me are being made scapegoats in this case,” he said. Swapna has already said that she will fight till her last breath to prove that whatever she said against Vijayan and his family is true.
All eyes are now on the apex court whether it will allow the ED to shift the case from here to Bengaluru or not. Earlier, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. A case of disproportionate assets belonging to Jayalalithaa was transferred from Tamil Nadu to Bengaluru.
