How deep is the meaning of ‘Tea Party’ in Darjeeling, TMC will not vote in the Vice Presidential election

Vice President Election 2022: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has taken a big decision before the results of the presidential election. He has announced that his party TMC will not participate in the voting process in the Vice Presidential elections. His decision is a big setback for the opposition parties. The votes of opposition candidate Margaret Alva will decrease and the road will become easier for NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar already in terms of votes.

TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee said that most of the party MPs have spoken to Mamata Banerjee about this. He said that at the last minute the opposition parties have announced the name of Margaret Alva without consultation, which is not democratic and appropriate. Abhishek Banerjee said, ‘Margaret Alva and Mamta Banerjee have good relations, but the election of the Vice President of the country is not going to be done on the basis of personal equations. 85 per cent of our MPs decided that we should abstain from voting. Banerjee further said that Jagdeep Dhankhar has been biased while being the Governor of Bengal. We will not support NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar anyway.

After this announcement of Mamta Banerjee, many political meanings are being extracted. Today in a rally, he has attacked the central government regarding the new rates of GST. His decision regarding the Vice Presidential election is being seen in connection with the tea party held in Darjeeling a few days ago, in which Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Jagdeep Dhankhar and CM Mamata Banerjee herself were also involved. It was only after this party that it was announced to make Jagdeep Dhankhar the Vice President.

Significantly, after becoming the Lieutenant Governor of West Bengal in the year 2019, Jagdeep Dhankhar left no stone unturned to create problems for Mamata Banerjee on one issue after the other. The tussle had increased so much that when both were in front of each other in any program, they did not even miss to taunt. Simply put, being in the post of Governor, Dhankhar had completely come into the role of opposition. However, he also says that he has done everything within the ambit of the Constitution. Mamta Banerjee had complained to the Center many times in Delhi about Jagdeep Dhankhar. In such a situation, Mamata Banerjee must have been breathing a sigh of relief since Jagdeep Dhankhar was made the candidate for the post of Vice President. The question is whether it was decided to give another relief in that tea party.
