President Drupadi Murmu’s Security: The office of the President in India is the largest constitutional post in the country. It is inevitable that the system of security of a person holding such a high position would also have been strong and excellent, but you will be surprised to know that His Majesty the country’s Excellency has been given Special Protection Group (SPG) and National Security Guard NSG. (National Security Guard -NSG) security is not available. The security provided to the Majesty of the country does not even come in the Z plus, Z or Y category. In fact, as the country’s first civilian and the Supreme Commander of the three armies, the responsibility of protecting him lies with the President’s Body Guards – PGB. These are the oldest and elite regiments of the army, so these bodyguards are very special. Their election is also no less than the commandos of SPG and NSG. The status of the bodyguard of PGB is a separate and highly respected post. From their training to service is also special. Draupadi Murmu, the 15th President of the country, will also be under her protection.
PGB was there even before independence
This special body guard unit was formed in the year 1773 during the time of Governor General Warren Hastings in the British rule. At that time about 48 guards were kept in it. These were imposed to protect the Viceroy. The number of these guards was later increased to 100. After the country got independence, this unit did not end. Its existence continued even after independence and now this unit takes care of the security of the President of the country.
Jats, Sikhs and Rajputs dominated in the protection of His Majesty
These security personnel who protect the President of the country are called bodyguards i.e. President’s Body Guards. Whether it is the Rashtrapati Bhavan or the areas outside it, His Majesty lives under his supervision everywhere. It is also a very special thing that only Jats, Sikhs and Rajputs get priority in this squad. There are Jat, Sikh and Rajput bodyguards in this squad even at present. About 170 jawans and more than a dozen officers are under the protection of His Majesty. Four officers of this squad get special administrative support. There are also 11 JCOs i.e. Junior Commissioned Officers in this squad.
There is a power of length in the security of the President
Physical formation is also a major reason behind giving priority to three communities in the President’s security squad. Height also contributes a lot to being the President’s guard. The body guards joining this squad are required to have a length of 6 feet. This squad is an important part of the cavalry regiment of the Indian Army. However, in the year 2018, a public interest litigation was also filed in the Delhi High Court regarding this. In response to this, the court had also upheld the priority given to three communities in the PGB. Such petitions were filed many times before, but they were always rejected. Significantly, on the recommendation of the army, in the year 2013, the Supreme Court has ordered to give priority to Jats, Sikhs and Rajputs for the security of the President.
It is not easy to make a place in the presidential squad
The PGB squad does not take care of the security of an ordinary person. If this special person is a squad taking responsibility for the security of the President of the country, then it is natural that it is not easy to make a place in it. There is rigorous training for this, this training is not only of months but of one and a half to two years. The one who shines in it becomes a PGB guard. The soldiers of this squad are given strict training like para commandos. For this, the jawan has to present his sword to the commandant. The commandant touches it and then the jawan joins the squad.
