Presidential Eletion Result 2022: Draupadi Murmu on Thursday created history by becoming India’s first tribal president by defeating opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha in a one-sided contest. Draupadi Murmu won by a huge margin against Sinha after securing more than 64 per cent valid votes in the counting of votes of MPs and MLAs, including the electoral college, to become the 15th President of the country. After the end of the counting process that lasted more than ten hours, Returning Officer PC Modi declared Murmu the winner and said he got 6,76,803 votes against Sinha’s 3,80,177.

2-Bharatiya Janata Party sources claimed that 125 MLAs did cross voting. It has also been revealed in the counting of votes that Murmu got the benefit of cross voting of 17 MPs. A significant number of MLAs from opposition parties in Assam, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh voted in favor of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance candidate.
3- It is believed that 22 MLAs from Assam and 20 from Madhya Pradesh did cross voting. Six MLAs each from Bihar and Chhattisgarh, four from Goa and 10 from Gujarat will also have cross-voted. All the MLAs except one MLA from Kerala voted for Sinha while Murmu got all the votes from Andhra Pradesh.

10-Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President J. P. Nadda went to Murmu’s residence to congratulate him. Modi said that India has created history by electing a leader born in a tribal community, belonging to a remote part of eastern India, as the President in the Amrit Festival of Independence. In a series of tweets after the announcement of Murmu’s victory, Prime Minister Modi said his tenure as MLA, minister and governor of Jharkhand was “excellent”.
