Teacher Recruitment Scam: A special court in Kolkata has sent West Bengal ministers Partha Chatterjee and Arpita Mukherjee to ED custody till August 3. Also, a medical checkup has been ordered every 48 hours. Arpita Mukherjee, a close aide of cabinet minister Partha Chatterjee, was produced in a special court in Kolkata today. The ED told the court that preliminary investigation has revealed that Arpita Mukherjee, a close aide of arrested Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee, was running at least 12 shell companies for financial maneuvering.
The ED said that it was very difficult to convince Partha Chatterjee to go to Bhubaneswar. According to the ED, Partha Chatterjee opposed this and said that I will not go. With great difficulty we somehow took him to Bhubaneswar. The ED produced the AIIMS Bhubaneswar medical report of Partha Chatterjee before the court, which shows that he is fit and stable. The ED said that there is nothing wrong in the medical report. He was taking advantage of his position to stay in a government hospital. He is fit and can be detained.
ED said ministers are not cooperating
The ED also said that Partha Chatterjee has refused to sign his arrest memo. The ED said that the minister is non-cooperation. They do not sign the ED papers and even tear the paper. ED has found documents related to the joint assets of Partha Chatterjee and Arpita Mukherjee. This property was bought by Parth in 2012. During ED’s interrogation, Arpita admitted that the recovered amount belonged to Partha Chatterjee. The money recovered was planned to be invested in companies linked to Arpita Mukherjee. The plan was to keep the existing cash amount somewhere outside his house in a day or two.
What did Partha Chatterjee’s lawyer say?
Partha Chatterjee’s lawyer in the court said that the High Court had not given any direction to arrest Partha Chatterjee. They went to his house without summons and kept on interrogating him for 30 hours. He was taken into custody by the ED on July 22. Now his three-day custody has been completed.
ED arrested in teacher recruitment scam
Let us tell you that the ED had seized cash worth more than 20 crores from Arpita Mukherjee’s house. Arpita was a close aide of West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee. Partha Chatterjee was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the alleged teacher recruitment scam. The ED suspects that the cash seized from Arpita Mukherjee’s residence is the proceeds of the alleged teacher scam. Partha Chatterjee is now the Minister of Industry and Commerce. Partha Chatterjee was the Education Minister of the state when the scam happened.
