CESL to set up 810 charging stations on 16 highways and expressways in the country

EVCS On Expressway And Highways: Convergence Energy Services Limited-CESL will install 810 charging stations for electric vehicles on 16 highways and expressways in the country. It will cover an area of 10,275 km of highways and expressways.
Charging stations to be built on service purchase model
It is worth noting that CESL is a wholly owned subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited-EESL under the Ministry of Power. Will be built on other busy routes including Vadodara Highway, Delhi-Agra Yamuna Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway, Hyderabad ORR Expressway and Agra-Nagpur Highway. CESL is making this charging station service through procurement model. Under the public-private partnership model, the companies with which CESL will partner will invest in and operate these charging stations.
EVCS expected to be ready in 6-8 months
In this public-private-partnership model, CESL will partner with companies whose job will be to invest and operate these charging stations on expressways and highways. These charging stations are expected to be ready in the next 6-8 months. Setting up of charging infrastructure on highways is part of the FAME-II scheme administered by the Ministry of Heavy Industries. These electric vehicle charging stations will be designed to meet the needs of both private and public vehicles plying on the roads today. These include vehicles like Hyundai Kona, Tata Nexon EV, MG ZS EV and E-buses.
There will be charging stations every 25 kilometers
These DC connectors will be available at 50 kW capacity charging stations every 25 kms. CESL will install 590 such charging. With this, 100 kW charging stations will be installed after every 100 km. 220 such charging stations will be installed. This tender has fulfilled the government’s dream of merging subsidy with investment and encouraging private investment in the business of charging stations.
