Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday that the subject is compulsory until Assamese Class X English in middle schools. He said the new education policy will revive the mother tongue has been made compulsory in schools.
At the head teachers at 59 or day celebrated in Srimanta Sankardeva Kalashetra, the minister said that the new education policy will have five years of education. He said that from now on, students will be able to study in their mother tongue Science and Mathematics different adding that middle school students will also have to study English Assamese to Class X.
The minister also noted that in the last 5 years the education system has developed. “Students belonging to BPL class need not have to worry about school admission. Class IX at university level, admission is free for students. The government will provide free textbooks from school to college, “the minister added.
