The Assam government on Wednesday unveiled the standard operating procedures or standard operating procedures for students in classes 9 to 12 for which classes are set to resume in schools between September 21, 2020 onwards.
Educational institutions have been closed for the past six months from 15 March onwards due to the ongoing pandemic. Although continued teaching online, several students were unable to attend classes due to a number of unavoidable circumstances.
As by the order issued by the Chief Secretary, B Kalyan Chakravarty, to the state Department of Secondary Education, the SOP for re-opening of schools classes 9 to 12 come into force on 21 September 2020 and be operational for 15 days. After 15 days and observe the situation since September 21, the SOP is modified accordingly.
According to current guidelines issued by the Department of Secondary Education of the state, while students in classes 9, 10, 11 and 12 will reach schools and colleges, other classes remain suspended.
The standard operating procedures provide that for students in classes 9 and 11, classes will be held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday while classes for students aged 10 and 12 will be held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday. In addition, the state SOPs each class is divided into two lots (unless the number of students in a particular class is 20 or less). Classes for the first group of students will take place 09 a.m.-12 p.m. while for the second batch classes will be held 13: 00-16: 00. Moreover, it is required that school authorities in Assam to ensure that the first batch of students are sent home before the start of classes for the second batch.
