‘Akhil Gogoi is sick, has symptoms of Covid’ — jailed RTI activist’s wife in Facebook post

Geetashree Tamuly, spouse of Akhil Gogoi, a worker head, RTI dissident and organizer of Assam-based Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), has communicated worry over his “Covid-like side effects” while he is stopped at the Guwahati Central Jail.

Gogoi was captured in December 2019 under the altered UAPA (Unlawful Assembly Prevention Act) by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) following the counter CAA fights that had shaken Assam a year ago.

Tamuly, who shows Assamese at the B. Borooah College in Guwahati, wrote in a Facebook post: “It’s been a couple of months. There is no TV in the house. A great deal of things remain without knowing. Just observed this on Facebook… Akhil is wiped out, indications of Covid. Don’t have a clue what to state.”

She included: “Numerous individuals call and inquire as to whether sibling is alright… yet what do I know? … This time there is no news, no calls.”

Tamuly’s post comes in the light of neighborhood media reports expressing that Gogoi’s wellbeing has disintegrated and he has “indications of Covid”.

“We haven’t had the option to meet him since the most recent two months. Indeed, even his family hasn’t had the option to connect or see him. Someone from inside the prison premises educated us that he has fever and body throb, and that he isn’t recouping,” Pranjal Kalita, aide general secretary of KMSS’ understudy wing Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS), told ThePrint.

Kalita included, “Early a month ago, two prisoners of the Guwahati Central Jail had tried positive for Covid-19. So we currently dread that the infection may have contaminated different detainees. The focal prison has upwards of 1,200 detainees.”

A senior cop, be that as it may, disclosed to The Print that Gogoi wasn’t experiencing Covid-19. “Gogoi doesn’t have coronavirus disease,” the official, who would not like to be named, said. Jishnu Baruah, extra boss secretary (home and political), Assam, stated, “I am not mindful of the circumstance on Gogoi’s wellbeing or side effects.”
