RTI On MP Pension: A total of 1991 former MPs (MPs) are getting pension / family pension in the country. This includes 1447 former MPs of Loksabha and the remaining 544 former MPs of Rajya Sabha. The Lok Sabha Secretariat has given this information in response to an RTI. Apart from this, during May 2022, the government has paid Rs 6.28 crore for pension / family pension.
Actually, an activist had asked the question by putting RTI that how much pension do the MPs of the country get. The activist asked in the RTI that the total number of former MPs who have received pension should be given along with the breakup details. Apart from this, the total amount of pension being distributed to various former MPs in a month should also be told. Along with this, no matter how much burden it has on the government, it should also be told.
This issue arose with the pension of Agniveers
When the central government launched the Agneepath scheme, there has been opposition to it. In this sequence, the issue of Agniveer’s pension also came to the fore and due to this questions were raised regarding the pension of the MPs. Discussions started that if MPs can be given pension, then why not Agniveers. It was even said in the discussion that instead of giving pension to MPs and MLAs, it should be given to Agniveers. Recently BJP MP Varun Gandhi had also said that not all patriotic MPs can reduce the burden of the government by sacrificing their pension?
