Andhra Pradesh Suicide Case: The poor financial condition of the family and alleged pressure from bank officials to clear credit card dues forced an 18-year-old girl student in Andhra Pradesh to end her life. The incident took place on Wednesday night in Nandigama of NTR district where teenager Haritha Varshini committed suicide by hanging herself. The student who was smart in studies had cleared EAPCET (Engineering, Agriculture, Pharmacy Common Entrance Test) and had a ranking of 15,000.

Police have recovered a suicide note from the house, which read, “The cost of education will be an additional burden on our family. I don’t want to be more burden, so I am taking this step. I AM SORRY Amma. If anyone asks Why did I commit suicide, then tell them that my rank in EAPCET was bad.

Unable to deposit credit card bill

According to Nandigama Circle Inspector P Kanaka Rao, Varshini’s father Jasti Prabhakar Rao works as a supervisor in a construction company in Delhi and is only able to come home during festivals to meet his two daughters and wife. Prabhakar Rao allegedly used Rs 3.5 lakh from a credit card of a reputed bank for the needs of his family and the education of his children. Prabhakar failed to pay Rao’s credit card bills for more than three months and bank officials reportedly visited Varshini’s house two days ago and pressured the family to clear the dues.

The role of bank officers will also be investigated

Bank officials also allegedly misbehaved with Varshini’s family in her father’s absence. Police said, “The teenager, disappointed by the incident, might have taken this step. The family was in financial trouble.” The suicide note revealed that Varshini was worried about her family’s poor financial condition and her future education. He requested his mother to pay his younger sister’s school fees from the scholarship money. The police have registered a case under section 174 (inquiry on suicide) of CrPC based on the complaint of Varshini’s mother Aruna. The police has assured that the role of bank officials behind the suicide will be investigated.
