16 lakh vehicles without PUC
At the same time, according to an estimate, till July 18, 2022, about 13 lakh two-wheelers and three lakh cars were running in Delhi without valid PUC. An official of the Transport Department said that the state government has sent reminders to the mobile numbers of about 14 lakh vehicle owners asking them to get PUC certificates made. The official said that the pollution season in Delhi is going to come within two-three months. We have to ensure that we reduce vehicular pollution to some extent. Alerting vehicle owners to obtain a valid PUC is a step in that direction.
exempted from fine
The official further said, vehicles which are not plying on the roads are exempted from fine. The officer cited the example of a retired army colonel who wrote to the Department of Transport that his son was abroad and his vehicle was parked in his garage. He said, of course, the vehicles which are not plying on the roads need not take PUC, but the vehicles plying on the roads without valid PUC will be booked. As per the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, four wheeler BS-IV vehicle owners are required to obtain a valid PUC certificate after the expiry of a period of one year from the date of their first registration.
